Another year, another compilation, another useless reason to delay archival releases of rare and unreleased material. Released exclusively through Wal*Mart in the summer of 2007, The A-Z Of Queen: Volume 1 presents the same old songs with a new twist: instead of offering them chronologically, the songs are presented alphabetically, though whoever compiled the disc should probably take a refresher grammar course: anything beginning with a definite article ("a", "the") isn't considered a proper part of the song title, so A Kind Of Magic should be categorized under "K" instead of "A", and, as far as this author is aware, the alphabet does not go K, A, B, I, C, D, F, I, G. Grammatical quibbles aside, The A-Z Of Queen is a gimmicky compilation meant to entice shoppers of the biggest store on the planet, and it seemed to have worked. For anyone who already has the assembled tracks, there are still three good reasons to pick it up: the artwork, perhaps the most unique and creative Queen-related sleeve design in many, many years; the bonus DVD which features the first time that the Innuendo video was made widely available on DVD; and an offer to download two exclusive ringtones of Play The Game and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy. If that isn't quality, then you're obviously unfamiliar with Wal*Mart. So far, this remains the only compilation to be released, though the "Volume 1" subtitle would indicate further compilations are planned. We here at Queenpedia look forward less to the actual content and more to how record company executives in charge of coming up with tracklists will butcher the poor alphabet. Tracklists
