To capitalize on the lucrative Christmas market, Parlophone coupled together the UK editions of Greatest Hits and Greatest Hits II for the British fans. Containing no new material but newly-penned liner notes from Jacky Smith, head of the Official International Queen Fan Club, and knowledgeable Queen employee Jim Jenkins, the compilation did the trick, and shifted numerous numbers, ultimately reaching #37 in the UK. The following year, again in time for the holiday season, the compilation was issued by Hollywood Records for North American markets, though, again, nothing new was included, apart from some subtle promotion of the new Made In Heaven album. (A discography page at the back of the booklet features a shot of the album cover.) Considering both the UK editions of Greatest Hits and Greatest Hits II hadn't been released in the US, and that programmable CD burners had yet to be perfected, this release was useful for North American fans who weren't in possession of the unique single mixes.
